Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone has an excellent Christmas vacation!

Remember that Christmas is what we make it. It should be a time to show love for each other, and to share this love with people besides our family. Christmas is not meant to be a big party or a commercial event, but a remembrance of God's love for us - because He sent His son into this world in the form of a baby boy, who became the only perfect man that ever lived. He then sacrificed Himself for us, that we may have eternal life. Every day we have the choice of accepting this original and free Christmas gift, which is the grace of God.

Please do the right thing for yourself and your family by accepting this gift and God's love, and then sharing it with others.

Merry Christmas!

Mr. Catlin

Blog project reviews and results

For the first quarter, students were supposed to get their own blog up, add three gadgets, and make comments about stories and articles. The following three students were selected at that time as having done the best job in their class:

Lit 5 Eric

Lit 4 – Jeffrey
Lit 3 Ragini

In the second quarter, students were asked to write a description of their science fair project and put a reaction there for each of two stories that were read in the quarter.

For the third quarter, students who have not completed the above will need to do so. Then we will have another two reactions to two favorite selections from the book during the quarter, as well as one of the weekend articles. Additionally, a description of a student's favorite music group and the kind of music they play as well as a sample of their music (preferably a link to an online video source) posted on the blog for student music will be required.

Articles and blog for first quarter 2010

First Quarter Articles
1 As English spreads Indonesians fear for their language (New York Times)
2 The early bird really does get the worm (Harvard Business Review)
3 His corporate strategy the scientific method (New York Times)
4 Forget what you know about good study habits (New York Times)
5 Weird weather in a warming world (New York Times)
6 The boss is robotic and rolling up behind you (New York Times)
7 Cleaner, Healthier Air (New York Times)
8 Off to College (New York Times)

The article on robots is quite long so it counts as two articles for a total of nine.
Also, the blog needs two story reviews from the first quarter readings, a review of your DVD report, one review of one of the weekend articles we have done, and two posts on either my blog(s) or a classmate's blog. To be considered complete for the project grade, however, you first need to get the blog up and running, link it to the main blog, and add three other gadgets.

Welcome

Dear Literature students,

We have three projects per quarter this year. This first quarter had a DVD project, and you are now working on your research paper. The final project this quarter is to make a blog that you will link this main blog. I will also link your blog to mine here. On your blog, you can post ideas or reactions to stories, poems, articles, or anything from our course. I may also ask you to post things about your projects and things you have read throughout the year. I will check it periodically. Please put something new on your blog every two or three weeks.

Best regards,

Robert Catlin
